Lucas stood at the oil rig letting the icy metal cool his back. In front of him were three old textbooks, while another book rested between his hands. The H.I.V.E. Had turned out okay, Lucas was able to have a home to go to and they were teaching him how to use his powers. Out of the 4 books Lucas had on his person only one of them was an actual magic book. The H.I.V.E. Didn't just want Lucas to learn the magic words oh no they wanted him to know how to speak it fluently. They told him to memorize grammar and how to write it. Personally Lucas had been too excited at the time to realize how much this information would be useless to him. All he needed was to learn the fundamentals of the spells they were teaching him and even then some of the teachers he didn't personally like. They scared the bajeebers out of him. So Lucas took his books and escaped for some peace and quiet and alone study time.
The book he was studying had filled his concentration. H.I.V.E. Had given him a book about metal magic and while the book it self was so old Lucas couldn't help but find it interesting. So far he had learned the things he can do with metal but they have yet to give him metals true name. Without it he could only cast the spells the book gave him and that would definitely not be fun. A breeze of wind hit him and Lucas laid his head back and against the cool metal. In his mind he felt hungry but he didn't know what. He had eaten his normal ratio but it felt as if he were starving for some reason. Shaking his head he stood up and stretched not really knowing what to do. At midday the waves crashed gently on the rigs holding bay. Lucas stared up at the Titans Tower and smiled as he remembered Raven. He'd have to visit her soon. Lost in his day dreams something hit him on the head making him fall down on his butt. Lucas's lower lip pulled out into a small pout as he massaged the bruise.
”Ow... that hurt...

"So this is where you disappeared!" Jinx had been worried sick when she couldn't find Luca anywhere inside the Academy. He'd just disappeared without telling anyone where he was going. It took a lot of convincing and maybe some threatening to have someone with psychic powers to find him. And of course the moment she found out where he was she'd run to see he was okay. What a place to hide!
"Tell me that you at least had lunch." Jinx was taking her motherly role a bit too serious but she saw nothing wrong with it. She actually had some sandwiches wrapped up for who she thought was a kid.
Jinx approached the boy with a deep pout, looking very much like a scolding mother. "Don't ever run away like that again without telling me. You had me worried sick." The boy had fallen down and she ran towards him to see he was okay. What had happened?
"What are you doing? Get up." She leaned down, gently caressing where he was bruised. "Are you okay? Does it hurt too much?" Jinx really looked worried. She didn't know what to do but seeing Luca pouting like that made her worried.

Lucas really didn't hear Jinx while he was studying and in fact had only really noticed her when the piece of metal hit his head. Jinx had rushed to him and had massaged the wound. Lucas looked at her for a moment and it looked like Amelia had been standing in her place. Jinx flustered over his wound but Lucas didn't feel the pain anymore. ”I'm fine Jinx how did you find me?” Lucas asked sweetly not really caring on the how, just happy she was there. As he sat there he remembered all the things Jinx had said while he was not paying attention. ”Oh well I left because I felt weird on the inside. I felt hungry for something but I didn't know what. As the words left his mouth he felt it again. It was a hunger not in his belly but more in his soul, he needed something or else he would die. His eyes stared at Jinx for a moment as if she could possibly fill him. There was a spot on her neck that looked sensitive, he wondered for a bit would happen if he nibbled on it. Lucas shook his head, why would he want to do that to Jinx?
”I'm sorry for making you worry Jinx I won't ever do it again, K?” He made sure to add a big smile when he was done and he pulled her in for a hug. As he held her close he looked passed and saw a H.I.V.E. Boat. It was weird a big shadow had appeared beneath it and soon the boar was sucked under water very quickly. Lucas let go of her quickly and looked at her, his eyes screamed fear and his body shook a little.”Jinx your boat just sank, I think there's something in the water.” To make his words true a giant figure came from the water. It was very large in fact it was probably 7 feet around. Its scales were blue and its head was that of a snake. The body was exactly like a snake too however how long it was Lucas didn't know. The monster let out another roar and Lucas stared at it. I must protect Jinx Was his only thought.

Jinx smirked at the boy, proud at her own cunning ways of getting what she wanted. "I threaten some psychic at the H.I.V.E. The poor guy was shaking after I was done with him." She actually hadn't used her powers. All it needed was a yelling and screaming Jinx and the poor guy was reduce to tears. Ah, good times.
The enchantress just sighed at his explanation. Well, of course. Lucas would be one to like be outside and free. He had wings and all. It had to be some relation, right? "It's fine. Just don't go out without telling me." Then she smiled, "As for hungry!" She showed him the packaged sandwiches with a slight proud smile. This had to be how mother felt...
And then he smiled. Jinx almost smiled back. He was far too cute! He hugged her again and she patted his head nervously, still not used to have someone so close to her. Still cute though. "It's fine. Fine." She replied, smiling a bit embarrassedly. She ran a hand through his hair, wanting to sooth him in some way. That was until he spoke.
"What?" She turned just in time to see her hip disappear on the water. "What the hell-" And then the monster appeared. Jinx stood up, taking a fighting position, keeping Lucas behind her. "Don't move, Lucas!" She ordered him, fearing that the young boy wouldn't be able to handle the monster.
Jinx stretched her arms towards the monster, her hands open wide. She threw two big pink beams towards the water, hoping for the best. The water started to raise until it created a huge wave that fell on the monster. She just hoped it would be enough to keep it at bay.
"We need to go."

Drifting lazily through the clouds over Jump City, Supergirl made her way towards Titans Tower. She'd been thinking that she might need to start slower, have a warm up of sorts, before petitioning to be a member of the Justice League; after all, that wasn't the kind of thing you risked going into unprepared. The Teen Titans seemed like a potential solution and, while she hadn't resolved to join the team yet, she was in their city. If Kara had learned anything from the times she'd met and interacted with Batman, it was that you didn't start operating in another hero's city without notifying them.
Of course, as a thunderous roar reached her superhuman auditory senses from below, Supergirl threw such niceties right out the window. The clouds rippled and a sonic boom echoed across the sky in her wake as the Kandorian dove downwards. Vision telescoping ahead, she took in the scene several seconds before she entered it in a blur of red and blue. There was an oil rig, obviously out of commission, temporarily inhabited by a known villain. What was her name? Curse? Spell? Something along those lines which, given Kara's lack of invulnerability against magical attacks, did not bode well. She had her arms raised and, from what Supergirl could deduce in a split-second glance, had summoned some kind of sea serpent and was directing it to attack a captive of hers: a prepubescent Thanagarian male, of all things.
Descending from the sky faster than the human eye could easily discern, Kara only fully reentered the visible spectrum when she was eye-level with the beast. She threw a right hook, impacting on the beast's jaw with the sound of a mountain falling, and it reeled back for a moment. Though the creature was clearly far from defeated, Supergirl took that moment to whip around in mid-air and fire off a short burst of heat vision at the purple-haired witch below her.

Lucas had mixed feelings when Jinx told him she threatened a psychic to learn of his where abouts. He was happy she cared so much but she didn't have to make someone fear her. She was too nice and pretty for that. He felt bad about the way others treated Jinx especially in the H.I.V.E. The other boys in his dorm would make fun of her elaborate plans and need to be all in control but Jinx was a great leader as far as Lucas could tell. She had brought sandwiches along which made Lucas smile. He wasn't hungry for food but he would eat them anyway. The teen liked being thought of and well Jinx had done so with extra. When he held her he felt her hand move against his hair, it felt good to be touched but he didn't know why.
As the sea monster appeared Jinx swore instantly putting Lucas behind her. The teen gave Jinx a cross look behind her back slightly irritated that she wanted to keep him safe. Lucas wanted to make sure Jinx stayed safe and her taking charge wasn't going to help. He saw Jinx send put some pink rays and soon two waves were crashing into the sea monster. The snake like thing dived down into the water disappearing for a moment. Jinx had made a mention of they need to go and Lucas nodded. The boy had spotted a door into the rig and had almost took Jinx there until he spotted two small rays heading towards Jinx. ”Jinx!” Lucas screamed as he rushed forward. A hot searing pain filled his arm as the beam struck and his body flew and hit the bars of the rig making him lay in pain at the edge. Lucas was still for a moment trying not to cry, his arm hurt a lot but he knew if he was still than Jinx would try and help him. He grabbed on to one of the bars and slowly stood up, running towards the entrance. ”Jinx come with me to safety!” Lucas told her making sure to look at the woman again.
The sea monster had reappeared right behind her and Lucas could see a blue light slowly coming out of the monsters throat. Lucas pointed his finger at her and began to recite the spell. ”Matris Ventus Addo Suus Ut Mihi Per Vestri Spiritus!” It was a simple spell really and the girl could most likely fight it off if she wanted. Lucas had told wind to bring her the girls body so she could hopefully could evade the monster's ice breath. The monster released his breath and Lucas grabbed Jinx with his good arm and threw her in the room. He followed her in and looked back to see if his attacker had fought the wind. If she hadn't she would be in the rusty old room with the rest of them if not she would be getting a large ice blast at pretty close range.

There wasn't much time to think when Jinx blinked and saw a mash of blue and red attack the sea monster, making it go under sea. "What the-" Jinx was pushed, or rather pulled, by Lucas as she managed to work out the figure that had attacked them. Supergirl. Lucas scream brought Jinx out of her shock and she immediately went to him, trying to see his arm.
"Lucas! Are you okay?" She managed to scream out, wanting nothing more but to kill that stupid blonde for hurting HER Lucas. He was like her little brother and Jinx wouldn't take any hurting of her family. But Lucas was already yelling at her and she had to suck up her anger. She followed Lucas, running towards him as fast as she could, before the young boy grabbed her arm.
"Hey! No!" Jinx called helplessly as she fell to the floor, and actually managed to glare at Lucas for taking up the role of leader. That was HER job! Back in the H.I.V.E. they'd trained her to give out orders and plan out strategies. Lucas was just being trained to study languages and magic! Why the hell was he taking up such a role when he was so young.
She stood up, trying to focus her anger towards Lucas to the other girl. "Yo! Superidiot!" She yelled at her, obviously angry. "What the hell do you think you're doing!" She waved a fist towards the girl, "You hurt an innocent child and you call yourself a hero?! WHAT A LOSER!"
...It was probably not a good idea to start bashing a girl when there was a sea monster in the middle.

A small portion of Kara's stored solar energy was released optically. It wasn't a concentrated or particularly powerful blast, but she did want to take the witch out of commission early and swiftly. She wasn't exactly interested in taking a villain's comfort into consideration either so it was hot enough to sear. However, while lacking Clark's control developed over a lifetime of slowly gaining his abilities as opposed to having all of hers thrust on her in the less-than-a-year she'd spent on Earth, Kara had learned some finesse; she made absolutely certain that the beams of superheated air and light would not so much as graze the Thanagarian.
Of course, all of that split-second calculation and skill went completely to waste when the boy bodily threw himself in front of the fleeing witch and took the heat vision in her stead. Unless he was suffering from a rather severe case of Stockholm syndrome, Kara realized she'd have to reevaluate the relationship of the duo. She came to a new conclusion that he must be an accomplice when her super hearing picked up his voice raised in a latin incantation, something about asking the mother wind to lend him her breath - despite her ability to pick up Earth's dialects with consummate ease, she'd yet to master any of the dead languages.
Its effects were crystal clear however. An unnatural gale twisted and pulled around Supergirl, trying to drag her from her position. Simultaneously, the giant reptile she'd previously assumed was a companion to the witch began to belch an icey exhalation that put her arctic breath to shame; the fact that it did not take into account the safety of the two criminals on the oil rig suggested that the creature was actually their foe rather than their ally. Unable to fully avoid both the spell and the serpent's assault, Kara chose the lesser evil and allowed the wind to carry her away.
She found herself sucked down into the quarters the two magic-users were taking shelter in just in time to catch the girl's tirade at close range. Supergirl grimaced slightly at the "loser" comment; the unsophisticated lingo of many of Earth's teens was one of the larger reasons she'd lasted less than a semester in her attempt to attend high school. She'd never ever admit this to Clark, but there were occasional times like now when the Kandorian found herself rather hating humans.
"By dint of associating with a known criminal, that would be you, he is not an innocent anything," Kara responded coolly. Glancing over to the winged boy, she adjusted her initial estimation of his age and species accordingly after x-raying him; while not quite human, he certainly was no Thanagarian and couldn't be more than a year or two younger than herself.
"And he's hardly a child," Supergirl finished her retort before becoming all business. She jerked one thumb towards the doorway, through which the sinuous sounds of the monster moving through the water could be heard, and cocked her head to one side.
"Now do you wanna tell me what's going on?"

Lucas smiled as the flying girl submitted to his spell. As soon as she was inside the room Lucas shut the door. As soon as the door was shut the room began to shake as the ice breath had hit. Parts of the door were soon covered with ice and frost. Sighing in thanks Jinx's insults filled the room. As he turned he saw Jinx badgering the hero and if Lucas wasn't mistaken he was sure he spotted a grimace on the young girls face. The girl was pretty though with her long blond hair and blue eyes. With his hand covering his burn he took a step forward wanting to calm Jinx down. Just as he opened his mouth the blond girl struck back at Jinx with her words. She had called Jinx a criminal and himself for simply being associated to her. Well that was a bit rude seeing as he wasn't a criminal. The blond looked at him as if she were seeing through him and that made him shiver. The girl said something about him hardly being a child and this is true he wasn't. Lucas was 15 and should be treated as such but he let it go. The girl wanted to know what was going on so Lucas walked forward some more and spoke. ”Hi, I'm Lucas Castle it's a pleasure to meet you.” He said in a very polite voice offering his good hand for a shake. When he was able to show the burn it was in fact quite nasty. Blisters surrounded the wound and a impact had his his nerves making it bleed a bit. Luckily his hand was still clean so the hand shake would be fine. He breathed before he spoke again taking the pain, no wasn't a time for tears it was a time to work together.
”Me and Jinx currently are H.I.V.E. Students and I wasn't feeling very well so I kind of left the building without alerting anyone. Jinx found me here and well then that sea monster appeared and ate Jinx's ship so we had no way to get back. That's when you showed up ma'am.” Lucas spoke calmly and loudly enough that way his words wouldn't be muffled by anything. In spite of being shot Lucas held true to his manners and good nature even offering the blond another smile. His eyes looked at Jinx and he gave her a pained smile. ”Please don't mind Jinx, she's an amazing person once you get to know her. She didn't mean anything she said, she's just being rash is all.” As he finished his sentence he looked at her. ”And I wouldn't change you for the world.” Lucas said with a little pained wink.
A loud clicking sound was heard inside the room making Lucas look around the room. THWAP!!! A long pole smacked right into Lucas's burn making him cry in pain. The young boy instantly dropped to the ground as tears came from his eyes. The thing that attacked him had appeared on the wall. It was a large fish thing except it had to tiny arms that were quite long with a matching pair of legs. Its mouth was also quite large and what filled the inside of it were 3 rows of very sharp teeth. In one of its hands it held a spear and when it looked at Lucas it looked as if it were smiling. As Lucas looked around they were surrounded, he couldn't do anything the pain was too much. One of the fish tried to jump the blond while her back was turn and Lucas screamed ”No!” The fish had began to glow a soft red and then it flew back into a wall his eyes staring in confusion. Lucas looked at his hand as he was trying to figure out what had happened. He hadn't casted a spell but he was sure he made the fish thing fly back. Another fish had tried to stab into Jinx and for that he was ready. ”Ligatio is incendia.” The fish behind Jinx was wrapped in a ball of flame and his shrieking was quite loud and disturbing. The fish standing on the wall looked at Lucas and charged forward ready to stab him with his spear.

The fact that the girl had called Jinx a 'known criminal' actually made the enchantress smile. It was good to know that her hard work was paying off. In no time the Brotherhood of Evil would be calling her in to be the greatest villain of all times. Ah she could picture it now. The teen titans running away at the mere mention of her name. Of course she wouldn't be feeling so proud if she'd known that the blonde girl actually didn't even know her name.
"Oh, so now it's a crime to just stand there!" She replied, getting back to her business of glaring at the flying girl, "Thank you for telling me that! Now, is it a crime to breath too? Or defend ourselves against a monster? Because if so, PLEASE take yourself to jail, you hypocrite!" Lucas was already introducing himself and Jinx moved to stand beside him, in case the Supermoron here got any ideas of hurting him again.
The kid moved his hand from his wound and Jinx winced at the sight of it. It was horrible. Yet, Lucas wasn't crying. He was very politely giving out his name. The girl took a step loser, looking down at the wound and feeling helpless. If only she had better powers she would be able to help her friend. But if she actually tried to use her powers on the wound it would probably get infected. Bad luck was something you wished for your enemies, not your friends.
Jinx eyes widened as she caught up with what Lucas was saying. "SHHHSSSHHHSSSSHHH!" She hissed at him, waving her arms in desperation. H.I.V.E. Academy was supposed to be a secret. Of course, the Titans actually knew all about it but that didn't mean it wasn't a secret. "LUCAS!"
And then it came the bit about herself. Jinx harrumphed, crossing her arms and looking away from the boy and the blonde, feeling suddenly self conscious. She wasn't used to be on the spot like that. Much less being called an amazing person. She actually blushed at that part. "She doesn't need to know me!" She replied in her usual haughty tone, "And we should be taking care of that wound, not giving explanations to superidiots."
The room moved suddenly, and Jinx almost lost her balance. "Luca!" She cried out when the boy cried like that. It actually hurt her seeing him in pain, she jumped next to him, throwing the pole away from him. "Are you alright?" There wasn't much time to think about it because some fish like creatures started to attack. Jinx waved an arm at one of them, shooting a pink wave that managed to push it into the water again.
Jinx managed to turn in time to see Lucas helping Supergirl and she huffed again. She really had to talk to him about sides and where he stood now that he was in the H.I.V.E. "Luca you-" And then a fish behind her caught fire. The anger she'd felt for seeing him helping Supergirl disappeared in a second and she smiled again, proud that he was learning some more magic.
Of course there wasn't much time to think as another fish launched towards Luca. She was so not letting anything hurt him! Jinx waved her powers towards the roof and managed to make one of the tubes fall on top of the fish thing.
"Not that this isn't fun," She said, jumping just in time to avoid a fish creature that had tried to get her with it's spear, "But we really need to get out of here!"

As much as Supergirl tried to emulate her adopted cousin's brilliant smile when dealing with civilians, it was Batman's glare she attempted to copy when dealing with criminals. As the purple-haired villain actually tried to take the moral high ground with her, preceded by a rather sinister grin no less, the alien teen found her brows contracting in just such an expression.
Before she could decide whether or not to knock the witch out then and there however, Kara's train of thought was interrupted by the boy. He introduced himself as Luca and gave her a run down of the situation, including mentioning some sort of institution that the girl he called Jinx (that was her name!) seemed most unhappy with him mentioning; Supergirl filed the name of the academy away for future reference. Everything he said was delivered in a disarmingly polite, genuine, and really rather innocent manner that actually caused the heroine to blink in surprise. Moreover, despite having deduced his true age, she couldn't help but feel a little bit sympathetic towards the cherubic-looking boy's burned hand upon seeing it clearly.
Jinx's personality was perfectly in sync with the situation though. However, even as Supergirl rounded on her at the second use of the term "superidiot", Luca cried out in surprise and pain. Suddenly, they were surrounded. She hadn't heard them. She hadn't smelled them. They were just suddenly everywhere, some even scuttling across the walls like spiders. Could this situation deteriorate any further?
The answer to that came swiftly in the affirmative as Kara reached up with lightning speed to catch a downward-arcing blade and, instead of stopping short at her nigh-indestructible epidermis, the razor-sharp edge bit deep into her flesh. She gave a shocked cry and exhaled sharply, blasting her assailant and several of his comrades backwards. Then she clenched both hands, bleeding and not, into fists and laid into their foes with a white-hot fury used primarily to mask any signs of the sudden fear she felt.
By the time Jinx sent a portion of the roof's piping cascading down onto the humanoid amphibians, Kara's initial wound was no more than a faint scar. However, she had gained several more slices on her arms and legs in the process, her sun-fueled powers overwhelmed at times by the sheer numbers of their attackers. Supergirl glanced first at the cuts in her tunic, she'd been wearing this new costume for less than a month and already it would require major repairs, then at the seemingly endless flow of aquatic warriors continuing to charge the trio she now found herself a part of. Moreover, a quick x-ray of their surroundings revealed the walls to be too thick to break through fast enough and the floor above them to be equally filled with fishmen. The only way to go was...
"Down! Down the stairs!" Kara directed the other two in a tone she hoped held enough authority to overcome their differences for the moment, her voice booming through the room with all the volume of her supercharged lungs. Her eyes narrowed and her lips puckered, arctic breath freezing a handful of attackers solid while a dispersed wave of heat vision boiled the skin of another group. Feeling she'd bought enough time, Supergirl herself retreated by the same route she'd suggested to the others.

Lucas shrugged as Jinx tried to yell at him for telling the secrets about H.I.V.E. He didn't see the harm in telling about it was a sanctuary for people with powers. As he continued his words Jinx became anti-social saying the hero didn't need to know anything about her. Well it was just common courtesy and plus he didn't want Jinx to be hated when she was on fact likeable. When he was attacked he hated the way Jinx had attempted to jump to his rescue. What if she had gotten injured? If Jinx was to say she was all about herself then why couldn't she listen to it when he got hurt. The blond on the other hand was the one who he needed to worry about. She had seemed so sure that she wasn't going to be hurt by the blade and when it had cut her she seemed pissed. The teen bashed the enemies around her quite fiercely and it looked like Jinx was doing the same. The bad luck queen was issuing bad luck left and right. One fish had jumped out of a small pool of water and Jinx had made it go right back in again making him smile.
Some of the fish were crawling on walls and they slowly began to near him. In the condition he was in now he thought it was time to use his staff. When it wasn't activated it was worn around Lucas's neck. The silver crescent was usually hidden underneath the clothes Lucas wore that day and the red orb that levitated in the center of the crescent never really shown. He grabbed on to it and slowly began to focus his magic into it. ”I unlock your power.” He said simply making the world around him slow. The world was nonexistent to him the staffs magickal energy filling him. The Staff of Twilight was special simply because it unified the magicks of light and dark making the other 4 elements more powerful as well. When balancing out a mages soul it also balanced out his magick. The long staff appeared in his hand and at the top a crescent could be seen. The crescent was very thin and also very sharp so if he wanted to cut someone it would have been very easy. In the open middle of the crescent a red orb levitated surrounded by ten little pyramids. It had been a while since Lucas has used the staff so he was confused when he felt hot and smelled sweat. He saw a flash of dark purple hair and light tan skin. Someone was gently kissing his wound but when he looked down he saw no one and the burn on his arm had disappeared.
Time moved again at its regular pace and Lucas began to pay attention to the battle. There were 3 fish on the wall beside him moving in close and 4 more on the ground charging at him. He smacked one of the fish on the wall making it fall with a shriek of pain. Taking a step back Lucas said an incantation using fire again. ”Incendia offendo lemma per vestri spiritus “ He waved his staff around and the current of wind it made burst into flame igniting his current opponents on fire. Lucas smiled in victory yet it quickly disappeared for every fish he killed two more were ready to take its placed. They were getting overwhelmed and he soon heard the blond telling them to all descend downstairs. ”Come on Jinx!” Lucas called as he ran towards the steps. As he ran he looked at the hole Jinx had caused on the roof. A few of the fish mutant things were crawling out there but Lucas couldn't understand why. He waited for Jinx to descend first and was about to follow until he heard a very familiar roar. If he uses his Ice Breath while we're in here we're all goners. Lucas thought in a chill. ”Excuse me ma'am...” Lucas began to speak in a very hurried but calm tone. ”Well if you reach the bottom with your flying powers you and Jinx can break through a wall and fly to the surface.” He took a brake to repeat his incantation making some of the closer fish mutants back off. ”Please keep Jinx safe and I promise we'll meet again soon.” Lucas looked at her and he was pretty sure she knew exactly what he was going to do. Well at least I can try one of my new spells... Lucas thought. ”Obfirmo Is Semita Servo Is Ex Vulnero!” Every step on the stair case began to raise making a large block of steel. Lucas had commanded the metal to block the staircase and save it from being entered or harmed. Lucas heard the sea monster and soon saw it staring at him from the hole in the roof. He was surrounded by my 40 of the fish mutants with only his staff to protect him. For mother. Lucas thought. Just then the sea monster opened its mouth and breathed its icy flame into the room...

Jinx continued throwing the fishmen back with her powers, yelping as one managed to fall on her head. She just grabbed it and slammed him to the floor, before throwing a wave at him. Disgusting... wet... scaley- "I didn't know you could do that!" Jinx said with a small amused smile as she saw Lucas release his staff. It was pretty impressive how much power someone so young could have. For her... Well, so far all she could do was break stuff and make people trip.
Down the stairs. Jinx turned to glare at Supergirl a moment before turning her attention back to the stairs. Ugh. As much as she hated the other girl, or any of the heroes for that matter, she was right. There was no other way out of there but taking the stairs. She managed to throw away another fishman when Luca called her. She hissed under her breath, throwing another wave at the pipes on the roof to make them fall on the little disgusting creatures to buy them some time. So Jinx ran, taking some steps down the staircase and looking up at Luca. A second stretched itself as she stared at Luca spoke. What? You and Jinx?
"LUCA, DON'T-" She tried to run back up, skipping steps in the process as they started to bend, but all she reached was the steel wall Lucas made, managing to stand on a steel piece. She hit it in vain, glaring at it in despair. "YOU IDIOT!" She banged against it again, before throwing her waves of bad luck to it. Jinx wasn't as strong as either of them. She didn't have magic nor super strength. All she could do was give back luck to others... but the steel wall only moaned, as if it was slowly bending. Very slowly. Jinx didn't give up though. She kept throwing wave after wave of pink, resisting the urge to cry. Why did he do that? They all could have escaped together! But no, he HAD to go and get himself killed to play the hero.
She turned to the blonde girl, glaring at her with moist eyes, "HELP ME YOU IDIOT!" She yelled at her as she kept sending pink waves to the steel wall but it was useless. It was far too resistant. "I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU HEROES ARE BUT IN THE H.I.V.E. WE DON'T ABANDON OUR FRIENDS!"

As she shot into the stairwell, Supergirl was relieved to see the other two hot on her heels. She hadn't been sure they'd listen to her, despite the fact that she was obviously right. She figured that if they headed down fast enough, they'd be able to find a place to break free fast enough. In order to facilitate that, she planned to take up the rear of the retreat and fend off the sea creatures to buy the other two more time.
Unfortunately, Lucas seemed to have the same thought. Fast as she was, with her mind on a million things at once Kara didn't register the exact wording of what the boy said until it was too late.
"Don't" her words rang out simultaneously with Jinx's. A blur of motion, she none the less slammed into the roof just as the stairs melted into it... and not so much as a crack appeared in the metal from her impact. Though it was not something she'd planned on sharing with these particular individuals, Kara really did hate magic.
The sounds of Jinx raging against both the barrier and Supergirl herself were dimmed into the back of the Kandorian's mind. Her superhuman vision and hearing were focused on examining the situation. But she couldn't see magic. There might be a portion of the ceiling that wasn't effected by the spell, but finding it might not be easy. And even so, the floors were thick. They'd see her coming. There was a good chance she'd rise into a flock of fishmen and her skin apparently held no invulnerability towards their blades. Again, she hated magic. Trying to save him stood a better chance of killing all three of them.
Honestly, this was the hardest part about being a hero. It wasn't the fighting or the villains; it was the responsibility, the weight of which was added to by every person she failed to save. It was making the hard decision to leave someone behind even when a loved one of theirs was screaming at you to save them. As she looked at Jinx and saw the first tear finally escape the witch's eye, rolling slowly down her cheek while the girl screamed herself hoarse, Supergirl prayed that Lucas knew what he was doing.
"I'm sorry Jinx," Kara murmured. She meant it too, though that would likely register nor matter to her purple-haired companion. Before the other girl could react however, Supergirl had broken the sound barrier in a space of a mere few feet. She scooped Jinx off of her feet, shot down through the twisting passages of steel, and punched through the thinner bottom layer without slowing down. Hand clamped over the sorceress's mouth and nose, she shot in a loop through the water before breaking the surface and sailing into the air once more.
They landed on the coast mere minutes after Kara had uttered her apology to Jinx. Yet already the enormous serpent was gone and, as the teen hero's x-ray and telescopic vision scanned the oil rig and the water around it, there was no sign of either Lucas or their attackers. Her head hung, face hidden by strings of ropy-wet hair, and her hands clenched into white-knuckled fists tight enough to crush stone into diamond at her sides. As much as she tried to tell herself that he was likely a criminal and had made his choices, her experiences with the honest-faced boy in the short time she'd known him left Kara with a burden of guilt that even her super strength found difficult to support.
