There was a bit of silence at the table as she thought for a moment. His words actually amazed her a bit. Maia didn't think he was so smart but his words....it seemed he was never going to stop surprising her. It was enough for her to not feel bad about how he didn't even have a record of being born.
"Maybe it's black and white to some...but there's still others that see it as a colorful rainbow. You may think your black and white....but you certainly seem colorful to me. Your very full of surprises, Jack."

"Surprises...I'm just trying to figure out who I am."
Jack placed the fork down on his plate and took in a deep breath of air through his nose. After sitting there a bit quiet as he waited to say something. Jack could sense something coming and with that let the breath out and with that stood up and made his way towards the front window of the house.
"Excuse me."
Jack watched out the window as the sky started to fill with clouds from over the ocean. Another storm coming across the sea. It was like any other though it was on days like this Jack felt a little bit strange. Which is just about the only way he could desrcibe it. Seeing one of his scars start to burn up a bit he rolled down the sleeves of his hoodie to hide it and continue watching the sky.
"The rain is coming...."
Speaking a soft voice a single drop of rain hit the window and soon after another then another. Soon enough it was fully raining a nice full healthy rain that meant well for a farm or garden. Jack stared out into the rain. He could smell the rain coming. It wasn't hard for him. The moisture in the air always gets thicker when it's about to rain. Even some humans could tell with Jack it was just natural.
"A fire burns and the ashes kill the soil. The rain falls and puts out the fire and washes away the ash. Maybe rain could put out my fire."

Maia looked at her father. Of course he also smelled it but said nothing. This had....gotten a bit awkward. She slowly stood up, going over to him. To her Jack seemed sad and lonely more then anything else. Someone that need a hug, a shoulder to cry on but she was worried about how he'd deal with actual contact.
"What fire, Jack? Maybe I could help you. You can talk to me...I want to help. Please."

"No one can save me. No one can help me. Maia..."
Jack's hot breaths fogged up the window. The cold rain that hit against it caused the fog when meeting his hot breath. It was times like this Jack felt like he should just run away. Though Jack found himself not wanting to run any more. Maia was wanting to help and he was happy for that. He figured just once maybe he owed it to her to at least explain.
"Maia can you show me that extra room. I need to take off these blades around my arm and then I promise I'll tell you everything."
Jack spoke in a soft almost whisper like volume as he looked from the window down at Maia. His cold eyes watched her wondering how this was going to turn out. He never expressed or even tried to tell someone his feelings before. This could have a postive or really negative effect. Though Maia has done so much and only wants to do more. She deserved at least that much.

She nodded. "Alright. We're going upstairs for a bit! Don't worry! Just a quick chat between two only half human teens!" That should get them off their backs for a bit. "Come on." Maia smiled, making her way back to the stairs and going back up.
"Sorry about that but....it might help keep them from bothering us for a while." She walked down the hall, passing a few doors before finally opening one. "Here. This is where you can sleep tonight."

Jack just watched her speak to her parents. After that went after her. Following her up the stairs Jack just nodded her head to what she said. Jack didn't really mind either way though if that's how it was to be it probably was for the best. Watching her open the door to the room Jack walked in looking back at Maia speaking a soft voice.
"Don't fully shut the door. I don't want your parents getting worried."
Jack reached across the blades strapped against his arms and removed them by taking off leather belt like straps. The straps left marks along his arms to show how tight they were held on. As well as how long he was wearing them for without removing them. Much like someone who was wearing a ring all the time and suddenly have taken it off. Placing them down on a small chair Jack turned to face Maia. Pulling down the zipper on his hoodie Jack pulled the two sides apart revealing his chest and stomach. Hardened by muscle his light tan skin over his chest held a scar stretching from the right side almost to his arm all the way to the left. This scar was a quarter inch wide showing it was a bad wound at some point. On his stomach were two more scars side by side though were more like stab scars than a cut. Seeing as they were small and thin.
"These are the scars of my life. I never shown anyone them before."
Reaching out his hand toward Maia jack started to speak again in a soft tone of voice. He wanted to let her know he trusted her but more so that he knew she wanted to get closer to him but was scared it might bother him. Though if she was going to understand it was needed.
"It's okay to come closer Maia unless your scared of me....This one across my chest if you touch it you'll be able to understand what I mean by fire. Don't worry I won't hurt you."
If Maia was able to touch it the scar would feel a bit hotter compared to the rest of his body. Though it wouldn't burn to the touch it was clear the body temp around it was higher than his already higher body temp. Jack figured she might be a bit scared of his body now though. After all it scared Jack sometimes.

Maia nodded, not closing the door all the way. She watched, wide-eyed. Wh-who could do such a thing?! She wasn't afraid as much as concerned. Jack clearly had had a much harder life then her. She was actually starting to feel very bad for thinking she had it rough.
All the pain, all the scars, all the torture. No parents, no home....she was starting to realize how well she had it especially for a half human. Though to be honest...if it wasn't for the scars her eyes would have been drawn to something else but right now they weren't.
The scars of his life...how long had he lived with that? Maia looked away from his scars when he spoke again, shaking her head. "I'm not scared...just wish....there was something I could do...." Slowly she reached her hand forward, cold fingers feeling the hot scar.
Fire...was he...a fire demon? Was that what he meant? It was a bit confusing to her but it didn't bother her much. More then anything...Blood Star just wished there was something she could do to help his pain.

Jack gently held her hand against his chest when he felt the cold relief of her fingers brush against it. Letting out a slight sigh of relief Jack spoke in a soft voice as he looked down at Maia. She wasn't scared only worried. It was hard for him to make her worry. He didn't want to cause her any stress. Though he knew that it would only be worse not telling her the rest now.
"Your hand...feels nice....Maia these scars are my curse. I got them saving people and now they hurt cause of that. Cause I'm a demon of death. My body is hot cause only one place in the world a demon of death resides."
Jack looked down at the floor and the started to walk towards the window opening it up motioning Maia to come closer. Removing his hoodie fully a few scars across his upper arm now showed but even more so the bigger one like the one across his chest that ran diagonal across his back from his right shoulder to left lower back. Reaching his arm out the window a very small trace of steam could be seen coming off his skin and a bit more from the scars.
"My body tempature never drops cause I put myself in a constant state of I guess what most humans call fever. It drives my head mad and I feel violent. My body aches and feels like I'm on fire. Your actually the first time I felt a slight change in my tempature. My body is suppose to be able to get cold but instead I burn."
Pulling in his arm all the water was evaporated from the heat of his arm or was absorbed into his skin. Shutting the window gently Jack sat at the edge of the bed in the room and stared down at the ground. His eyes looking down at the ground as he soon looked up to see Maia.
"To put it in a simple term. You know how you feel bad if you do something wrong? Well to my body the wrong thing is to save someone from death. Sometimes I don't eat for a long time. My body can last long without food. I go weeks without sleep. These scars each one of them was a life my body thinks I should of let die. Some times it drives me so mad that you almost want to hurt someone just to make a little bit of the pain go away."
Jack's head felt slightly dizzy. Like he was pouring out a portion of his mind. He was feeling a lot of emotion but his body just did what came natural and pushed it into a head ache. Watching Maia Jack gripped his knees and spoke one last time.
"That is my pain and though I was once told someone could help me. Before I could find out how my uncle died. So here I am. I have traveled across the ocean and seen much but I'm still lost."

She looked up at him at the sigh of relief. Maia assumed she did something to help at least a little. Jack's words confirmed this, making her blush slightly. It was so warm to the touch...something she wasn't used to but it was a nice warmth...not painful.
To be caused pain for saving people...that was horrible! But now she understood....it was starting to become clear even as she saw the scar on his back. "That's only further proof about how good you are. You save others even though it causes pain to you. Most would rather kill then endure pain but you save knowing it will mean more pain."
Did that mean...helping her by making sure she didn't get shot caused him pain? Now she felt horrible about that! Maia slowly walked over to him, listening very carefully. "At least that means there's hope for you somewhere out there....right?"

"How long can I keep it up though Maia? How long till I snap and I end up hurting someone? You have your full moon and know how bad it is. Imagine if it became a 24 hour feeling every day. It's already becoming hard."
Watching her move closer and speaking Jack just shook his head. If it was someone his uncle knew he had no hope of finding them now. Uncle only had secret friends who were dead to the world like Jack was. He could go into every goverment file in the world and not even come up with a great great grandparent of the person he had to look for. That is how his uncle and his friends worked.
"I need to find my own way now. Though at this rate I'll just burn away."
Jack stood up and just looked down at maia with his arms hanging by his side. He knew it was hopeless for him to hope for a miracle. A demon didn't have a guardian angel. Jack watched Maia and knew that his life would end either with him buring up in that fever like pain or letting his own anger take him and end up being taken down.
"There is one benefit to having a life like mine. I have nothing to lose and no one to care I'm gone. So when it happens nothing will change. I know one thing that has changed. My heart doesn't burn any more now I just feel more lost."

No one to care....Maia shook her head, actually trying not to cry when she heard that. "B-but that's not true! Your my friend! Your the one thing in this whole world that makes me feel like I'm not some freak. That I'm not alone here. I....I would miss you. I would care if you were gone, Jack! There must be some way because I'm not going to sit back and let my best friend die!"
A bit of her father showed in her as she gave a determined look, nodding. "I'm not giving up on you! If there's a way I'll help you! I'm not going to let you burn away. I won't! And I'm not about to let you quit and give up on yourself! Quitting gets you no where! All it does is leave you to wonder what could have happened if you kept on going."

"Maia..."
Jack was surprised by her reaction and tried to get a word in but couldn't find it in him to stop her. So she did care if he lived or died. Jack in some way felt this was a mistake now. Even though every other part of him wanted to be really happy. After she finished speaking Jack stood there silent watching her. The determined look on her face met with the cold stare of Jack's eyes. Reaching out both his hands Jack gently placed them on Maia's shoulders. Watching her he realized that in this world it was impossible to go through it and not find something that made you want to at least try harder. Though Jack knew that no matter what, he had his limit.
"I need to say something to you now Maia. Something you need to hear. I don't want you calling yourself a freak or anything like a monster. Nothing like me. In fact instead of a monster you remind me of angel with how you are and act. You can even fly. My uncle said that anyone with the gift to fly was either an angel or bird. I don't see any feathers."
Jack opened his mouth slightly letting out a light sigh. Maia didn't know how special her powers made her and if the full moon brough her that much trouble. He would no matter what make sure she didn't have to be afraid or hurt by it any more. Standing closer Jack leaned his body into her's. Standing there watching the wall.
"It don't burn any more....I found it odd how my body always felt drawn to try and get closer. You feel like a piece of ice after being alone in the desert for so long."
Jack backed away and moved his hands from her shoulders. The heat returned to his body but even if it was for a second he felt like a whole day of pain was just washed away. She had a natural lower body temp. Though what Jack though that made it really special was she was so pure it had a opposite effect than his scars did.
"If you promise not to call yourself anything bad I won't give up on trying to be better."

Maia was surprised when he touched her shoulders. That warmth...it was so nice. An...angel? That surprised her greatly. She'd been called that with her blond hair and blue eyes but....not like this.
She gave a soft smile at what he said, blushing slightly when he leaned into her. That warmth. "I'm glad...I'm helping at least a little. Really....you feel like...hm..." Maia closed her eyes, trying to think of how best to describe it. "Like a warm drink after being lost in a snow storm."
Her bright, cheerful smile returned on her face fully. Yeah! That sounded right! She happily nodded at what he said. "Alright...if it means you won't give up I promise, Jack."

Jack laughed lightly after she comapred him to something. She seemed to have an odd way of seeing him. Though if that's how she saw him then so be it. Watching her face Jack sat back down on the bed watching her. It was odd having this feeling like he now had something to lose. Though he didn't know if it was Maia or the bond they had. Speaking a soft voice Jack pointed to Maia's face.
"I also want to know. Does your powers cause your cheeks to turn red? Cause your face has been red for a while now."
Jack watched sitting on the bed wondering just why Maia seemed to get red every time he got close to her. It almost made him want to test if it was maybe a reaction towards him. Though it may of just been her powers. Leaning foward closer to her Jack spoke.
"I also need to know....What happens if a guy and a girl sleep in the same room? Your mother said it in the same odd tone you did. Do they fight or maybe can't sleep? It confuses me cause I use to sleep in uncle's house and slept in a room with ten other girls from town who worked for him. Nothing ever went wrong. Is it something around here?"

Maia's face went even redder at that. Ah! He'd noticed. "Um..n-no. At least...I don't think so. It's....never happened before." Why couldn't she stop!? Stop blushing! Your just embarrassing yourself even more! Stop! Damn it!
She quickly snapped out of her thoughts at his question. "Oh...um...it's...what it can...lead to. My parents said a man and a woman sleeping in the same bed is part of how babies are made. They've been a bit vague with me worrying....I'd never meet a guy who'd except who I am at night."
